Your COA Says 99.9%. That Number Can Be True and the Vial Still Be Short.

Purity tells you the composition of what's in the vial. It says nothing about how much is in there — and almost every certificate published to buyers answers the first question and quietly skips the second.

Two vials. Same compound on both labels, same milligram figure, $35 and $135.

The buyer holding both of those carts assumes he's choosing between an honest supplier and a greedy one. He might be. He might also be comparing two entirely different quantities of peptide that happen to be printed with the same number on the front. And nothing on either product page — including the purity percentage that both of them are proud of — will tell him which situation he's in.

I've argued this for years and been treated like I was splitting hairs. Now there are numbers attached. In commentary on a testing dataset of 6,441 gray-market peptide samples covering fourteen compounds, CJC-1295 among them, somewhere between 41.6% and 71.1% failed to meet basic quality criteria — the spread depending entirely on which of two quality acceptance frameworks you applied.

Sit with that for a second. Same samples. Same instruments. A thirty-point swing in the failure rate, produced by an argument about the rulebook. That is the most honest thing in the whole dataset, and I say that as someone who sells this stuff.

Everyone reads this as a counterfeiting story. It isn't.

When buyers hear "failed quality criteria" they picture a guy in a garage filling vials with mannitol. That happens. It is also the least common and least interesting failure mode, and treating it as the whole problem is why this conversation has gone nowhere for a decade.

A vial can come in under its label weight for reasons that have nothing to do with fraud. Fill variance across a run. Counterion and residual water making up part of the mass on the scale, so the gross weight is right and the net peptide isn't. Degradation between synthesis and your door. Or genuine misidentification — the wrong molecule entirely. Those are four different problems with four different fixes, and "is it fake?" collapses all of them into a question that documentation can't answer.

Here's the part the industry has gotten away with: a supplier can be completely truthful on paper and still ship you a short vial. Because purity is a ratio. Chromatographic purity says that of everything present, this percentage is the target compound. It describes composition. It is silent on quantity. A purity figure with no net content figure is like a label telling you the cookie is 40% chocolate and never telling you how big the cookie is.

And it won't catch what isn't in that assay at all. In the same dataset, 15% of gray-market samples showed measurable endotoxin. I'm not going to tell you what that means for a person — these are research compounds and that isn't my call to make. What I'll tell you is that no purity percentage on any certificate I have ever opened would have flagged it. Different assay. Different question. The authors of that commentary say it themselves: consumer-directed third-party testing improves transparency but captures only a small fraction of the relevant picture. That's the vendors' own favorite reassurance, correctly described.

The Four Numbers

Stop grading suppliers on a percentage. Grade them on which questions their paperwork is willing to answer. There are four, and the order matters.

Identity. Is it the right molecule? Does the reported mass match the claimed sequence? For CJC-1295 this is not academic — DAC and no-DAC are not two grades of one product, they are different molecules with different masses. Mass confirmation by LC-MS answers this. A headline percentage does not.

Purity. Of what is present, how much is the target? You want the method, the chromatogram, and the area table. Not a number in a large font.

Content. How many milligrams of peptide are actually in the vial, stated against the label claim? This is the question the market has spent years not asking. Fill weight is not net peptide content.

Provenance. Which lot, received and reported when, tested by whom, and can you check it?

Our CJC-1295 5mg / Ipamorelin 5mg (No DAC) 10mg listing does not print a numeric purity figure or a net-peptide-content figure on the page. By my own framework, that's an incomplete answer to Content. I'm not dressing it up.

What is true: a COA is attached, to that listing and to our listings generally. Our certificates confirm identity by LC-MS and print the mass-confirmation spectra. They report net content per vial — measured on two vials, not one — against the label weight. They carry a lot identifier with received and reported dates. They name the external laboratory that ran the analysis. Ask us for the COA on the specific lot you'll receive and you'll get it.

And the blend problem is real: a single net-content figure for a two-component vial does not tell you how the milligrams split between the CJC-1295 and the Ipamorelin. I'm not going to pretend otherwise. If we start publishing net content on the page, this article becomes the stick you beat us with. That's the idea.

One more thing about that 6,441-sample figure: it is commentary on a testing dataset of submitted samples, not a randomized audit of the market. It cannot tell you that 41.6% of vials on sale today are short. It can tell you that the variance is wide, well documented, and not a forum rumor anymore.

The checklist

Before you buy, in this order:

  1. Identity — does the reported mass match the claimed sequence? For CJC-1295: DAC or no DAC, stated and confirmed?
  2. Purity — method, chromatogram, area table. Not a headline percent.
  3. Content — is net peptide content stated against label claim, or only fill weight?
  4. Provenance — lot number, analysis date, named testing source, for the lot you're actually getting.

A supplier who nails identity and provenance and tells you flatly "we report purity, not net content" has given you more usable information than one whose PDF says 99.9% and stops.

The takeaway

A certificate is a product, not an authority — review it the way you'd review anything else you're paying for. The number a supplier chooses to put in large type tells you less than the questions their documentation refuses to touch. Grade the paperwork on what it's willing to answer, and price the rest as unknown.
